Ok, I'm a dumb ass. .. so evidently you can't just swap the ammeter for a volt meter. Took out the volt meter and connect the two wire and the dome light came on... what a relief

I swapped the amp gauge for a volt gauge. I am switching to a one wire alt so I changed it out. All i did was switch the gauge out and used the same + and - wires that the amp gauge was connected to. Did I mess something up?

no all new add ons are using a separate fuse panel and relays on its own switch

Bypassed the amp? And added the volt or is the power going thru the volt gauge?

Hmmm. That would not work. Connect both wires that were on your amp gauge to the +ve post on your volt gauge, then connect the other post of your volt meter to ground. You will then be good.

Voltage = wired in parallel

Current = wired in series

Just like when you're using your multimeter

Also,I would put the voltmeter on switched power not the wire previously used on the ammeter gauge
