Shaker Emblem Question
« on: March 30, 2016 - 11:20:02 AM »
Quick question: When I bought my 70 Cuda it had a decal of the name of the car on the shaker. When I took the decal off there are 3 holes for the original cuda440 emblem. It was a new shaker without an emblem ever put on so the holes in the shaker are very small and I'm sure will need to be drilled out for the 3 posts on the new emblem to fit. The new cuda440 shaker emblem didnt come with clips or retainers and was wondering how they attach to the shaker? Are they supposed to have small clips or retainers like the Plymouth emblem in the grill with small retainers on the posts? Before I drill anyone know the correct size to start with? Thanks for any help

I've got my original shaker hood emblems out in the shop.  When I go out today I'll see if I can find them and let you know.
1970 Plymouth 'Cuda.  Matching numbers 440 U Code, 4 speed pistol grip, Rallye dash, AM 8 Track, Shaker hood, 15 inch rallye wheels, Dana 60 4.10, Super Track Pak.  One of 134 - 440 "U" coupes codes built in 1970 and one of 100 - 440 Super Track Paks built in 1970.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

My SHAKER bubble is for my Challenger so my "callouts" would read "440 Six-Pack" I think the small dimples in your bubble are just indicators as to where the emblem/holes are properly located. My bubble was to thick to use the small plastic retainers on the inside because the pins didn't stick through far enough. I just finalized the location, drilled the holes and put a small dab of slow set epoxy on each pin and shoved it in place. Check the size of the pins and drill the holes just slightly undersized so you have to push the emblem into position.

Thanks plumcrazzy, good advice. Started small and ended up with 5/32 drill bit till I had a snug pin fit. A dab of epoxy on the pins like you suggested and they look great (just hope I never have to take them off now.... :) )
I didnt have to waste time taking shaker off to see if retainers were needed on the inside, appreciate your reply.

Sorry for the late response.  Took me a while to find mine in the numerous bins of parts I have.   In case you ever want to take the Shaker off and add nuts, it appears that they used speed nuts from the factory.  Mine didn't have the nuts attached (removed by previous owner) but based on the threads I'd say speed nuts were used.

Thanks usraptr, emblems are a very tight fit right now, wouldnt come out easily if I needed to remove them again. But next time I take the shaker off I'll throw a few speednuts on for added security if the shaker isnt too thick like someone else mentioned.

If you installed the emblems with a friction fit, do check when it gets warm.  Things expand in heat and they can get loose.

usraptr - what are the part numbers on your emblems?  Thanks!

Also, do you have any pics of the original shaker baseplate?

floyd, sorry not ignoring you, just haven't been on CC for a couple of days.  Will check emblems tomorrow and take a picture of base plate.

Georgewaw, not sure what you're referring to??  Wasn't aware the gas tank had any emblems?? Please clarify.
