Hi all,
greetings from the last Frontier!
I am in the process of getting my car back on the road after a decade of being "ignored" while rat-holed away in the bowels of a former Salmon cannery. Been going thru the basics (fresh gas, oil, etc.). Had it running about 3 years ago (not happily!), and then a good friend went thru the carbs (6-pack) the next year, cleaned up the intake manifold, etc. With somewhat fresher gas, we were able to get it down to 800rpm idle (mild cam), but it was unable to hold the load in gear (auto). Then, life got busy and it sat for another two years.
So, fast forward to a few weeks ago, when I had 2 weeks off from work to get back things back on track. All fresh gas, flushed fuel lines, new filter, blah, blah. Mechanically it sounds good, but still wouldn't idle worth a crap. Finally unplugged the Cagle fuel pressure regulator to check engine vacuum, and viola! much better!
Good enough to take outside (after cleaning up the brakes), and put around, as I was still waiting on Hagerty to get my Insurance completed. The master cylinder is Fubar, and I'm waiting on a new one to show up before I take it to the road. Anyway, I have a few questions regarding current offerings for Ingition systems.
I bought the car in 1989, then spent a while gathering parts & pieces, then off to the body shop for a year. So, most of the stuff on it dates from the early 90's, including my Jacobs "Energy Pack" ignition system, which crapped out before I put it away. So now, it is back to the stock Mopar Electric box. It looks like a MSD 6 box is the preferred option these days, and I'm just looking for input on that, and what else I should do (along with new cap, rotor & plug wires).
It still has idle issues, which we have traced down to a sloppy throttle shaft and the Vac. leak it produces, so a new center carb will be on the way soon also. (which they still had 1990 price tags!!
).
Anyway, here it is, and I look forward to any comments and helpful info!
Sorry for the "way HUGE" picture files, I wasn't sure if this forum would downsize them, or not. Will shrink any future offerings!
