4 speed and tti x pipe
« on: June 13, 2016 - 04:51:12 PM »
I'm running a 4 speed in my 73 and was planning on buying a tti x pipe. Talked to Jamie at Passon, the reverse rod will have issues, tti said the same. What are you guys doing? Not running an x pipe?

I am running the H pipe.  I still had to get a later reverser shifter rod, as the rod for the 70 hit the H pipe.  No issues now that everything is as TTI said it should be.  They know there stuff.

Jamie said that even if I got the 70-72 reverse rod I'd still have to bend it to clear the trans bracket?

Jamie mentioned something about the way the trans brace mounts will cause interference with the reverse rod. Even if I went with a 70-72 like TTI says, Jamie mentioned I'd still have to bend it to work. Don't want to do that.

You can get the later model rod 73/74 and you wont have to bend the rod.

Vertman,
Just curious...
Is the 73/74 rod the one that loops down and around?

That is what I have in mine. Not original to car though.

73/74 if more a "J" while 70-72 is more of an "L"

From talking to tti, they said since I have a 73, I will NEED a 70-72 reverse rod to clear the X pipe. Also I've read a couple posts that claims that's the case and it'll work. My confusion came into play when I went to order one from Jamie at Passon and he didn't seem to think it worked, unless I misunderstood him?

Brewers specifically lists the 70-72 rod as compatible with a tti x pipe in the item description.

Thanks,
I have what you described as a J shape.
Trying to decide if I will try the TTI when I put in the 3".

Mike, I thought I went with the 73/74 style....however I double checked and I had to get the 70/72 one and yes it is like an "L" not a "J".  I have the TTI 2 1/2 inch exhaust.
