Not sure if I want to spend the money for a red cap battery for 70 challenger right now. What brand battery looks good under the hood ? ?

Buy a good black case battery and peel the decals off it. It may not look "correct" but at least it won't look "wrong".

if you use an Optima, get a battery tender. They don't do well sitting for long periods of time. I used to go through one every year until they changed the warranty then I stopped buying them.

I don't think you can us a battery tender on the gel cell batteries.

Optima Batteries are AGM (absorbant glass mat) batteries, not gel cell.
The "Battery Tender Plus" is designed for AGM batteries.
From the Battery Tender website:
"RECHARGING AGM BATTERIES: The Battery Tender® has an absorption charge mode, but the the Battery Tender® Plus has a different absorption mode maximum charge voltage and a timer to hold the absorption voltage longer. These specific changes were made to accommodate the charging requirements of Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) style lead acid batteries."

I have an AutoZone brand AGM, I use a tender on it all the time. Get a tender
