Key Removable 70 Cuda
« on: April 21, 2016 - 03:23:18 PM »
Can someone tell me how to get the key out of the ignition on a 70 Cuda  340/4 spd car. The colum is out of the car but the key won't come out. I was thinking maybe the transmission may have to be in reverse. Thanks for any help Dirk

On the bottom of the column there's two little notches, turn the collar until they line up :2cents:

And for those who don't speak hieroglyphics...

When looking at the column from the steering wheel end the are three collars, the first has the turn signal lever sticking out, the second has the ignition switch & the third one is the one you need to grab and twist counter clockwise as viewed from the drivers seat....

The notches Alan is referring to are on the underside of the last two collars.....

And make sure the key is in the off/lock position. Remember all the way back towards you is the acc position. You will never get the key out if its in that position.

That's the deal with a 1970 column, you can't get it into the position unless the two notches are lined up.

Good grief Charlie Brown!!!

Easy method: reach under the steering column, grab the can which is just behind your turn indicator lever, and turn it to the left. This is true if the lockout is not hooked up, since it's out of the car then it's not hooked up!!!
