Newbie Question: 71 Cuda Console--Rear Ashtray or Seat Belt Buckle Holder?

I've seen Cuda consoles with an ashtray/chrome lid in the rear or with an open seatbelt buckle receptacle instead. Which was in the original car or did it depend on how the car was optioned?  Thanks.

I believe it has to do with years. 70ds have buckles receptacles, 71 have ashtrays, don't know about 72 to 74s.  :coffee:

71-74 is the same. They had the ashtray.

Thanks. And is the console itself different for an auto versus manual shift...or is the hole and console the same with only the cover/boot the distinguishing feature? Thanks again....

The consoles are the same regardless of which tranny you have. The difference is the standard shift has a bigger cutout in the toplate.

Actually incorrect , the 4 spd cosole is cut to clear the shifter boot so it is differnt than the auto console , the auto console can be cut to match the 4 spd though

Got it.  So you can take an auto console and cut it to accomodate a 4-speed, but it won't be as easy/look right to try it the other way round. Thanks.

The four speed top plate isn't really larger; it is in a different location.
