Guess I'll keep her a bit longer!!
« on: June 11, 2016 - 11:17:00 PM »
Had the car listed for a bit (been looking at used Viper's) - understandably a tough sale. Ebay was a complete bust - no interest. Finally garnered some Canadian interest with a gent out of Regina who was heading down this morning (8 hour drive) who understood that I was not moving off of my asking price but never did commit of course as he hadn't seen it yet. We did however discuss EVERY aspect of the car over the phone including a short video via text. There is a buyer for everything at any price - just have to wait it out - lol. Anyways I received a call from a gent this morning very local - he showed up and after some back and forth offered my asking as well and went away to grab a 10% agreed upon deposit with a Monday full payment promise on a hand shake. I then texted the Regina dude and told him bout the solid offer and that I would have to accept. Regina guy was regretfully 1/2 way here but respected the decision and congratulated me on the sale. 2 hours later local dude showed up and wanted to lower the offer - who does that? What a piece of S&%T, I declined and he went on his way.

What a mess - Regina guy told me to call him if things changed but don't know if I will - I am completely beside myself for wasting his time as well.

Had the car at the track last night and started to have fun again and was second guessing sale anyways. Perhaps things worked out the way they were supposed to - a used Viper likely wouldn't be as much fun anyway lol.

Where did you have it listed?  I follow kijiji pretty religiously and don't remember seeing a blue with white vinyl Cuda for sale.  I live south of Regina 90 miles

Kijiji - still there as pending - I'll sleep on it and decide what to do with it tomorrow.

I think you should have waited for the FIRST guy to show up from Regina before agreeing to accept some one else's offer. I think you screwed yourself on that one. :2cents:

I have to agree with Alan here, I was in a similar situation when I sold my boat last month, I told the local guy he could come see it, but I wouldn't entertain an offer Til my out of town buyer (5hrs away but about 1/2 way here) had a chance to see it and make an offer.  I've had more than one car sold out from under me when I was making a long trip to see a car, I may act like I respect the decision but it pisses me off.  Just my .02, but I think ur right, the VIPER wouldn't be as fun!   :2thumbs:

In hindsight I know I should have waited but a full asking offer is a full asking offer no matter who it comes from. Can't believe a handshake doesn't mean anything anymore - even if this dude came back tomorrow I'd still send him packing no matter how much he offered.

Today I am still asking myself if I want to invest the $15K or so to finish the car completely. I already have way more into this thing than I could ever recoup let alone putting more into it. Still brings a smile every time I drive it though....................

It was stressful selling the orange car. Trying to balance all prospective buyers and give everyone a fair shake. Everyone promises the world but when it comes down to getting the wallet out it's a different matter. It is impossible to keep everyone happy and it's a lot of stress trying to do it right.
As much as I loved my orange Challenger I have to say my Viper is by far the most fun and best car I've ever owned. The old cars make nice ornaments but if you really love driving your car hard there isn't much to compare to a Viper and you don't have to deal with old car issues, crappy repro parts and worrying about some idiot running into it in traffic.
Biggest worry with my Viper is keeping it under a semblance of control at full tilt.

Cash talks, bs walks. In today's world, a handshake is not the same as it use to be. A non refundable deposit should have been ponied up, otherwise let the guy driving have first shot. In the past there have been a few times I have made a call to a seller and let him know I am x hours away, but if it is as described or even close, I will buy it. They held it and I bought it. Probably a little different in today's world though.  :2cents:

I agree with the majority, currently have a non refundable deposit on my car.  But I always let the first person who showed interest have first right of refusal.
That said, new cars are fun and the Hellcat is a blast!

Welcome to my world recently.

Selling a Cuda in todays environment is challenging (no pun intended) unless you have a very rare optioned car. If I had a nickle for every joe dirt joker who called from Craigslist or a nickle for each lowballer from ebay I would have made 3x the $$$ on my sale!

Guess it's just part of the ebb and flow of selling classic cars.

Actually my problem was more in the line of trying to manage a lot of interest. My car must have been underpriced because I could tell everyone was pretty serious and it was tough trying to give everyone a fair shake at it. You're dealing with long distance buyers these days so I was trying to slot everyone in as to who was next in line and they were trying to line up travel plans. Then when somebody drops out it all seems to start all over again. It's easy to see why people just piddle a bunch of money away to an auction house.
