Fuel gauge woes

You have a point there. I'll rig up a ground to see if she comes alive.

Check for regulator voltage at the temp sender connector. Easy to get at. 
Just a thought. You recently put all this together. It is important that the gauge cluster has a good ground through the mounting screws. It is possible you don't have a good ground(all gauges not working). It would be worthwhile to attach a temporary extra ground to the gauge cluster just to make sure. (jumper wire with alligator clips)

You should be able to ground your temperature Gage wire, and it will peg out the Gage. that will tell you if that works.    but keep in mind I know more about bodywork than mechanical work.

You are the winner!!! I grounded the water temp grommit under the hood and guess what - IT PEGGED!!!

This means I need to ground the gauges and I am in need of a little person with long arms. Man it was a pain to get under the dash to try and ground it.

Thanks all - another mystery solved. Unfortunately it was caused by my overzealous behavior to paint the beejezus out of the dash frame.

You can now ground the fuel sender wire and that gauge should peg as well.

Now I need to know how folks have mounted a ground to the gauges?

I have circled some areas which might make sense. I circled one half of the ammeter because I have disabled it on mine and tied both inputs to one post.

If you don't want to scrape some paint off the dash frame, I'd use the screw that attaches the capacitor.

You could use never seize when you reassemble, good conductor.

gotta love bad news with good news.

I hooked up a ground to the fuel guage and nothing happened, unfortunately it was the opposite effect with the temp gauge.

So knowing the VR supplies both the fuel and temp gauge I know it's not the problem. So before I go ripping out the gauges again to send them off I was thinking of taking a known good voltage limiter wiring setup and try that out.

The one I have checks out on a continuity tester and should be a quick swap.
