I think this scripture was more directed to Paul's ability to faithfully and wholeheartedly serve the lord Jesus Christ. Most on here make the excuse that staying single allows you to "have fun" and "go on lots of dates" and "only worry about yourself." This is why I disagree of your interpretation of this scripture because it's completely off course in my opinion. It is hard and not many of us have the strength or faith to devote every aspect of our lives to Jesus although we try the best we can.Your taking scripture completely out of context. Read the first part of chapter 7 and you will see Paul starts by stressing that a man should only have sexual relations with his wife and likewise and verse 8-9 say this:8 Now to the unmarried[a] and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. 9 But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.Again there is nothing wrong with staying single, but using scripture to justify most people's reasons for not marrying is not right.
