I have my timing chain assembled and would like to know if any assembly lube is required. No mention is made by Comp Cam instructions. The timing chain will get oiled shortly after engine start up but what is standard procedure? I might lightly coat the chain, gears with some oil but do not want to dowse it to the point it drips all over the gasket surface of the block. One source shows the chain being packed with axle grease.

Priming oil pump should put oil on the sprockets before you start it, and they have some assembly lube on it when purchased...

Ah yes, I do have a drill attachment to prime the engine, good point.

I soak them them in oil before installing.

I might put a very light coating of assembly lube on the chain for added insurance.
