One of the last of a dying breed being thrown to the wolves..... The only reason that car is still around is it hasn't endured a winter in the snow, send it out in the weather & in three years it'll be history...... Not that it's a bad thing, just stating the facts...
Well, as an avid Mopar enthusiast I gave that some thought. I was worried the extreme enthusiasts would see this as sacrilege and mob me.....
But the facts are this-- I needed a car for the son that I felt was safe, relatively inexpensive to both buy and work on, good driving car with enough power to drive and enjoy but not something that would encourage racing and of course one that was "cool".
This one fit that bill.
Its not a popular car.
Its not a valuable car.
Its not a sought after car, at least not yet.
It is not a FAST car right now.
But, it IS a car, and cars were made to drive.
And I do believe that CARE has a lot to do with how a car survives a winter as well as where that winter is. We take care of our cars. And around here is not as bad as say canada or wisconsin....yeah there is salt for sure.....and I have had my share of rust show up on daily driven vehicles. But it is what it is.
So I dont really see it as "throwing it to the wolves"....that infers abandonment and neglect....two things that I can assure you wont happen with this car as my son is truly in love with it. Frankly, so am I. LOL
And if it DOES start to rust, it will give the kid a project to work on. In its current state, a perfect pallet for him to learn.
That said, since it is rear wheel drive my guess is that on the worst snow days or when the salt is unbelievable he may share one of our dailies.....which by the way includes a $47,000 Ram pickup that I got new, and love dearly and that I drive in the winter weather. It hasnt rusted to pieces in the last 4 years of winters. But then I try to take care of it. We dont have THAT many bad snow days here.....and I certainly am not going to put him into a POS Neon or Ford Taurus 4 door just because we are afraid of rust.
