Did all these Netherlands made Barracuda's come with the four pieces of stainless around the tail panel of the car?  They are standard issue on all 'cuda models, but these are all Barracuda's! The only other model of Barracuda that ever came with them, that I know of were 70 Barracuda Gran Coupes that were coded with A22 front and rear rubber bumpers in FE5. They had both sets of the rear tail panel trim, the four pieces of  stainless and the three pieces of aluminum.  Please comment on this. Thank you!!

i believe the M88 code (tail panel trim) was a rare option on BH cars.  there was a BH27N0B, EF7, PRT6, absolutely loaded, Barracuda featured in one of the magazines last year that was ordered with the trim.  I think it was a dealer demo to show all the things that could be ordered.  i forget what issue it was in, but it was nicely restored, and not cloned.

A "rare option" is one thing, but we are talking about cars that were NEVER available in North America with a 340 in them, so that is why I am asking.  Obviously the "rules" for ordering cars in North America do not apply in Europe. So your example in this case would be irrelevant.

European Barracuda's

I'm the owner of a '70 340 Barracuda (not 'Cuda). This car was assembled in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.....They made around 170 Barracuda's at the Nekaf/Simca plant in Rotterdam for Europe in 1970. All the administration/assembly info was destroyed in a fire, so we don't know exactly how many were made. After assembly in R'dam the cars (without fender tags and build sheets) were shipped to the country where they were ordered.

Hello KM/H. It is great to see more exposure about these missunderstood cars. There is history out there that is known by a few. These "08" cars do come as a surprise to most of us here in the USA.

I have seen several examples, and have followed the Rotterdam built cars for many years. I have not found to many to look at though. Thanks for showing us your car.

Did your car come with a different turn signal stalk? I am attaching a (blurry) picture.

I have found V.I.N.s that were ordered for France. 170385 to 170407....... All 383 auto without body identification as you can find on USA versions and no Data Plates...... The dash identification number would be 08170385 through 08170407. These were ordered, supposably sent to the factory in Rotterdam, assembled, and then sent to France.
Does your car have extra stampings into the inner fenders like this one does? See second picture. I know all the cars sent to France have this. I have seen a car that sold new in Austria and it did NOT have these numbers.
Perhaps you have an additional information plate on the inner fender like this French ordered one? See third picture.

I have only seen a handful of other "ordered new in Europe for Europe" cars. Those that were shipped disassembled and finished at Rotterdam. All were hard top cars.
The few convertibles that were "ordered new in Europe for Europe" cars were built in the USA at the Hamtramck, Detroit plant and came with a "normal" Data Plate that showed an Export VON (Vehicle Order Number). Also the seperate Export plate.
The factory hemi hard top cars that were ordered new in Europe, were also built at Hamtramck and shipped as a finished car to the ordering country. That has been my conclusion after years of research. I think that Chrysler wanted these "special" cars (convertibles and hemi cars) built under specific surpervision at the main Detroit plant. Possibly, the unibody jigs for the convertibles were only provided at the Hamtramck assembly plant. (Same rationalization as to why the Los Angels plant never built convertibles or hemi E-Bodies.)

The last picture shows an additional inner fender data plate attached for a car that when to a different European country.

Once again, Thank you for giving information on your 1970 Barracuda. Hopefully we will be exposed to many more uniquie cars like yours.

Great!
My Barracuda -70 is also Rotterdam-built. BH23G08
It came  in a dark solid blue, not metallic.
Barracuda emblems from -68
PS, Power discs, 8 3/4 SureGrip, 318, auto
Single exhaust and Barracuda rear valance
Radio delete
Rallye panel, km/h speedo
Buckets and console
Clear windows, not power
Light package
The body was not dipped like US made cars. The underside was sprayed in a black wash primer and got a complete undercoating.
Hood pad
Chrysler Benelux fender tag
Had an email conversation with Hans Ensing couple of years ago. He explained some of the details.
I contemplated if I were to restore it to factory condition, but I fell out on the other end and painted it Bright Red, 440/727, dual 3" exhaust, 'Cuda rear valance, but otherwise it retains most of the other details.
It probably came with steel wheels but with dog dishes or sides? 14" ? Anyone?

My car had a turn signal lever like yours. There is a chrome button on the tip and a wire runs inside the shaft. I have always thought that some previous owner installed it so I now have a "correct" E-body lever.
Too bad, the lever is in bad shape now. But it probably came from some other model/year. Then it wouldn't be that hard to find another.

are those reclinable buckets?  That would be too cool!

Interesting on the shoulder seat belts.  Looks like my 76 Jag XJc as far as placement.

What is the button for in the turn signal?  high beams?

Awesome Euro-cuda!

Some pictures of my Barracuda.

The chrome on the original front bumper show signs of front bumper guards.
