I attached the black wire from the pertronix to the -side of the coil, just not sure where to attach the red wire to. Also what is the little round thing below the Dist? The wire from it is attached to the + side of the coil.

This yellow wire from the Alt has also been spliced into and the other end isn't attached to anything. Where should it hook up to?

The round thing is a noise reduction capacitor
there are 2 wire to the alt you should have a 12v feed usually a blue wire ^& the green wire back the the voltage reg on the fire wall , the second wire to the VR is also blue 12v feed

I'm also going to buy an engine bay wiring harness from Year One.

The problem is that you have a BB in the car now.  If you buy the 73 engine harness, it will be for a small block.  If you buy a harness for a 70 or 71, the bulkhead connections might be different.  If you get the 73 harness, you'll have to modify/lengthen some wires to fit the BB.

That is what I fight with, have a 73 with a 68 440 and there are a bunch of extra unplugged wires in the engine bay.
I'm thinking off untaping the wires to follow them better and see what is needed and was is not.

If it was me I would purchase the 70/71 BB harness for the correct length of wires. Lay out the new one and the old one on a table and trace and compare all the wires back to the bulkhead connection. I would suspect that most if not all are lcoated the same. If you determine that any are different then remove them from housing and relocate where needed.
Not cutting the wires just re-pinning the connector. I have done that many times.

I have always used a wire, custom ground pin, small screw driver, etc..
But having the right tool would always be a bonus. Lol
