Maybe on a preproduction car they didnt have hard back, but I've never heard of a production car that didnt have them. Your car doesnt have an extremely early build date, so I doubt it would have such an oddity, especially if the car in question is a SE.

My "survivor" 9-69 Challenger RT has hard seat backs on the original seats. One thing I have found weird is the door panels DO NOT have the woodgrain plate above the grab handles, there is wood grain applied directly to the door panel but no holes for mounting the plate??? Is this normal???

Early cars didn't come with wood grain on the door panels.  No holes were drilled for the metal plate.  It seems like someone wanted wood grain on the doors after the fact and applied the sticker right to the plastic panel.

The seats changed in 73.  I've read that the foam was molded around the frame and isn't replaceable like the earlier years.  If the foam is damaged, you just have to piece it back together as best you can.  I highly doubt the plastic seat backs will fit a 73-74.

True for vinyl seats but they did if you ordered leather or cloth seats.
