Brake Question
« on: July 25, 2016 - 07:46:30 AM »
I have done the brakes a while ago. They were manual  disc/10 in. drum and I added a rebuilt power booster. The brakes stop good except they go almost to the floor to do it. It has an aluminum master cyl. and I checked the booster which seems to be working and the push pin   seems like its seated in the booster. Ideas ??

The parking brakes are only partly holding. The rear brakes are adjusted up, all cables replaced and adjusted very tight and even on a slight grade they won't hold the car. Anyone else have this problem ? Thanks.

reminds me of what I encountered a couple of times.. .here's a post I made some time back
E-brake adjustment & rear drum adjustment are two different things but are related

Other than the master cylinder not holding pressure all I can think of is the rear shoes not being adjusted... I encountered this on Drew's Challenger when he said he had no brakes, his brakes had all been recently replaced.. I found that the auto-adjusters on the rear drums were not engaging the star wheel.  Pull the rear drums & see if the adjuster lever is engaging the star wheel...you can press the cable to see if the lever will catch & turn the wheel.  I found that you need to "cock" the lever, grab it with pliers & pull straight down.

did you bleed the system? if you can pump the pedal and it rises, there's a good chance you need to bleed them or the shoes need to be adjusted out more... also make sure the bleeder valves are on the top of the calipers and not the bottom as air rises and can be trapped :working:.
