to use or not to use body gaskets...71 cuda
« on: June 27, 2016 - 11:50:49 AM »
so... trying to do this right but being the first full E-body restoration I've done, unsure of what should be used when it comes to body gaskets..

I have purchase multiple set for multiple items including a few full "repaint" sets. none really match, and I do not have any original to go off of...  plus I know a lot of time suitable replacements are not available so most don't even put anything back in...such as the hood shaker ring gasket.

so like the fender "gills" I used what was sold to me as what was said to be original, two different venders, two different materials and colors, black and felt type or blue/white paper like....I used the black set and was satisfied with the fit and look.

however items like the fender top turn single indicators, again bought two sets ""different material and different colors, rubber and black, other blue and felt...I used the black "rubber" ones.

other are for door handles, turn signal housing, tail lamps.. etc.
some white, blue, black, even cork. plastic, rubber, felt, paper etc.

my question is what ones do most use, or not use, and why are so many different colors and materials,
what where they originally?
(I would think black and rubber, not blue, white or cork)
...any info would be great.
maybe the final body color effected the choice?

I agree. No problems with any of their stuff. I think I throw about a thousand dollars worth of stuff on every restoration I do on crap that doesn't fit right or looks like crap. You would think if your going through all the work to reproduce a part you'd do it right!
