Mopar, and other sighting this last week...
« on: June 30, 2016 - 09:44:38 AM »
Town of 3400. This last week, has been an Alpine white '70 coronet R/T. Mint looking. Owned by a guy a town over, so the beer store guy next door tells me.
Also out front of the repair shop, is a '69 Chevelle car. Beautiful.
And that day, also, was a 68 or '69 GTO. Red with a black top.

The Chevelle is a raffle car. NOTICE! I am NOT affiliated with this in ANY way. It's a church fund raiser.
I have not seen it up close. It is restored. It looks all original from 100 ft away - ie, no 5 inch cowl induction hood or anything.

I don't know if it's proper to put this here - but the info is (according to a business card)
The Crossing Fellowship
'69 Chevelle SS Raffle
5.3 LS motor - 4-speed auto overdrive.

questions? call Dustin at 308-279-2398 drawing date Sept 5 2016 http://www.thecrossingfellowship.com/69-chevelle-ss-raffle/
OK, looks like all the details are there. First time I've had a chance to look at it, as well.

I might as well add, that the Community College that I won my Challenger from, is this year giving away a '68 Mustang.
http://www.mpcc.edu/community/npcc-classic-car-projects/car-raffle

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO affiliation with either one of them. Do not know any details.

One thing I CAN tell you, is be careful what you wish for.
When I won my Challenger, the school had valued it at $31,500. They paid state taxes, but the feds looked at it like I "earned" $31,500 in one day. lol.
School paid $7500 in taxes, But I still ended up owing the feds. I ususally get back $5-7 thou, but had to pay in $2500. For what it's worth.

BE AWARE of that! Just letting everyone know.
Winning and free are two seperate things, lol.

I DO NOT know if the Chevelle raffle includes paying state taxes. The lady that won the car prior to mine (from Colorado) was miffed, because she had to pay state taxes,
so the school changed that when I won mine. I don't know anything about this stuff. ASK them.

I have no idea who restored the Chevelle. If it is turn key or not.
All I can say, is the Challenger I won was a nice project car.
I'm not *****ing. But it was IN NO WAY a turnkey ready to drive car. Paint/body, Vinyl top, perfect.
None of the gauges worked - have to send them out. Wanted ammeter converted to voltage anyway. Electrical all original - which is a crime unto itself. Harness is the FIRST thing they should have done.
SERIOUSLY? Leave a 40 some year old harnessin? WTF? $750 for a new one - made for Mopars. Made for high amprege.
Bypass the voltage limiter/put in the electronic one? Get rid of ammeter? WHAT"S ALL THAT? lol. wow. None of the above.
Lot's of little details that only Mopar people would know. Knobs on dash missing, pieces not repproduced missing, etc. Such as the door switch on pass side for interior lights. HOLY CRAP! REALLY?
Wipers not working, WIPER ARMS COPLETLEY MISSING) A/C not working, Lights not working - I have a notebook full of stuff. Gas tank leaking (New tank) didn't cap of emission tubes, ON AND ON.
Removed/broke (center a/c vent for one) important stuff that is not replicated. etc. Shifter linage all messed up - instaed of buying a $1.00 grommet, tried welding on a washer - luckily, I had a whole new shifter assy. to put in. Just little goofy stuff like that over and over. Shifter handle broke/missing, I had an old one. AD NAUSEUM.

BUT, it was better than an EBAY buy, NO rust, and paint and body and top are flawless. NO COMPLAINTS here.
Just know what you are getting into.
Like a Mopar buddy of mine said, can't trust a Chevy guy to build a Mopar. So true.
It turned out to be a very nice project car. IT WAS NOT TURN KEY! I deemed it completley unsafe until I have completely gone through it.
It sure looked pretty, though, lol.  SCARY everywhere else. Put a battery in the trunk. Ran the battery cable - while I was underneath trying to adjust shifter linkage, saw battery cable
going through firewall with NO grommet. MOST of the insulation had already chaffed away.

OH WHAT FUN THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN! seriously retarded. No fuse. No kill switch. WTF?
(no battery box, for that matter - just a plywood thing not bolted down, that rolled around every time I went around a corner) HOLY SCHNIEKE!!! WTF? over and over, I said these words.

NONE of that stuff would have bothered me if it was a high school class learning how to work on cars.
BUT, this was a college class on how to RESTORE cars. that's all.

I seriously hope someone else restored the Chevelle.

ASK QUESTIONS before you buy tickets. BE prepared for taxes. That's all

GOOD LUCK!

{oo/-------\oo} In '69 I was twenty-one and I called the road my own. I don't know when that road turned into the road I'm on. Jackson Browne
