Numbers Match
« on: June 27, 2016 - 07:42:06 AM »
Was at a car show in Mansfield Ohio over weekend and there was a 71 barracuda that had a sign all numbers matching but I notice it had headers . . So what does all numbers matching really mean ? ?
thanks

To most people "numbers matching" refers to the VIN numbers.

Only a few anal people would refer to numbers matching meaning every casting number on every part being dated and original to the car.

Most people go by the VIN.
On a fully numbers matching E Body, you should have the VIN or partial VIN in eleven places:

1)   Dash Tag
2)   Fender Tag
3)   Broadcast Sheet
4)   Upper Cowl
5)   Rad Support
6)   Engine Block
7)   Transmission Case
8 )   DS Door Sticker
9)   Warranty Card
10)   Window Sticker
11)   Title/Ownership

block stamp (and trans to a lesser degree) matches the vin is what it means to mean.  all other mods are fine.  my charger is numbers by my definition, but has headers, cam, ported heads, non original 6 pack, wheels, suspension changes, etc

I agree with Alan on the definition of Numbers Matching. On the other hand if they advertise Number and Date code then all parts on the car should have all the correct numbers and dates including Carb-Intake-Exhaust-Distributor-heads-and so on.
