I have an 340 A/C Challenger vert.  It's missing all its engine bay A/C components (it does have a dual groove alternator) but it has the correct A/C heater box.  I have to replace the 340 with another due to a massive block crack (non original block btw).  Are the accessory attachment bolt patterns consistent across all 340 blocks? And while I'm at it, what about the attachment bolt patterns on the 360 block?

Finally, what is a good source/vendor for a complete A/C system (engine bay components only)?

Thank you.  I'm so looking forward to getting this car on the road!

There may be some small nuance differences like a bolt hole being larger or smaller between the 340 years but nothing major. Just be sure you get the correct crank damper that matches a forged or cast crank. If you are going with a stick make sure the crank is properly Drilled out for the pilot bushing. As for the 360, as long as you stick with the earlier years they will also interchange. Crank damper is also specific for it also. One difference is the drivers side motor mount bracket bolting. The locations are correct but the 360 "ears" are narrower. You could get a 360 specific bracket or as I did (360 in mine) all I did was add washers for spacers. Of the 2 ears on the motor, the front ear is the same and the rearward one is not as spaced. Couple of washers and you are all good.
Fwiw the 318 is also same as 340 locations.

Have you considered an after-market AC system like Vintage Air.  It blows a lot harder and a lot colder than a stock system.  It would use a different box under the dash, but would be ducted to the stock dash vents.

False... But then your system probably didn't work anywhere near correctly if you were replacing it...

Thanks for the responses.  I'll probably stick with a 340 if I can. They can be difficult to find - pre '71 340's.  A 360 stroker may be a distant second if I can make it appear as a 340. As for a/c, I'd like to stay original as I have all the correct interior components.

Visually there will be no difference between a 340 and 360.
360 are also a dime a dozen compared to 340s. Leaves more $$$ for the stroker set.

I have all the under hood A/C components for a '72 Challenger. It was assembled 8/17/71 so it has quite a few leftover '71 model year parts, not sure if that extends to the A/C stuff. It wasn't hooked up on my car, but everything was there. Shipping some of it would probably be expensive, but if you wanted all the lines and not the compressor it might be more bearable. I don't need them taking up space here. Pm me if you're interested and maybe we can work something out.

Thank you.  I will PM you.  Hopefully they are stock for a '70 as well.
