« on: June 29, 2016 - 09:05:21 AM »
Finish putting in back seat last night so I'm going to lay carpet. Any hints, ideas that I should know ? ? Is it glued down anywhere ? ? Should I install the seat belts on hump 1st ? ? 70 challenger auto on column.
thanks

I just did this on my Charger and it was a PITA.  I installed FatMat first, best bang for your buck.  I also layed the carpet out in the sun for 3-4 hrs to relax.  I would start with the back, not glue it down and trim up the sides.  I would recommend putting in the seat belt bolts or something to hold it down because it will keep moving on you when you try to install the front.  I used a heated punch for the holes, did a nice job going through and "sealing" the hole with the carpet.  When you set the front, make sure the carpet goes up the firewall enough so you don't see it and wiring.  Then cut out your brights button and trans hole.  The trim up the sides.  Just take your time to make it right.

:iagree: And pay extra attention to the sides in the door seal area. If you trim it too short, there is no going back without some kind of repair, if that's even possible.
Double check the position/layout before doing any cutting or trimming.
Also, I used a cheapo pin type soldering gun to melt the holes for the seat belt bolts and the brights button. Worked perfectly.

Here is a thread with my carpet install with pics. Scroll down about half way.

Get a piece of flat rubber like is used for inner tubes and cut a piece to cover the hole for the tranny with as small of a slit as possible for the shifter. Tape it down with good quality duct tape and then lay the carpet over it. It will help keep noise and heat out.
