Cut Leather

Covered lower front seat yesterday going to finish putting holes in for side hinge. Can I just cut a hole in the leather with a scissors or will leather tear. Should I use a hot hole punch.
Thanks

A hole punch is what really works well. A hardware store should probably have them.
