Starting your car
« on: July 27, 2016 - 10:36:20 PM »
should it be necessary, after pumping the throttle a few times, to have
the accelerator pedal pushed down at all, if the carb is set up right?

Press all the throttle pedal all the way to the floor to reset the choke, then a few pumps and should start.  No need to keep the the throttle down.  On a warm start, like a 30 min or so since you shut it off, you should just hold the pedal down 1/2 way on start instead of pump.

ok, backed off the idle set screw about 1/3 turn, and did
not touch gas pedal after pumping twice, and car started right up!

Glad to hear it's working for you! I've found that engines, like women, are all different and one will want to be pumped and one won't (no pun intended). It's trial and error until you find what the machine wants/likes. Don't go and ask your wife if she likes to be pumped- or not.  :nono:
