440 engine water pump housing bolts...dry or wet?
« on: July 28, 2016 - 01:10:26 PM »
Trying to keep the rebuilt 440 engine water tight.

Do the water pump housing bolts and long alternator bolt on a 440 go into water jackets?

Wanting to know if I need thread sealer on the bolts or not.

Thanks.

If you are talking about a stock housing I replaced my water pump and used RTV black on the gasket surfaces but didn't do anything about the thread bolts.

Sealed up just fine.

I was referring to the threads on the bolts going into the block.

From the information I gathered the bolt holes do not go in to water jackets so no need for sealant on the bolt threads.

Thanks.

Slowly looking like an engine.
