AC compressor switch
« on: August 20, 2016 - 03:44:54 PM »
http://nostalgicac.com/compressors/compressors/sanden-709-v-belt-double-groove.html

Currently have a original type ac system as far as I can tell.
Can I just replace the old compressor with this Sanden unit to get more ac?

Has anyone did this compressor switch or used this Sanden compressor?

Not much output now and its hot here in Texas.
I did add freon that helped the temp a little.

Several companies make the brackets to mount a Sanden compressor in place of the RV2 you have there now. You will also need a temp control switch to cycle the compressor and the appropriate hoses to connect to the compressor. If you haven't already converted to 134a or similar you will also need to flush the entire system and replace hoses and o rings.  It would be easier to just replace everything from the firewall forward as I did as the new style 2 pass condenser is more efficient. The challenger A/C system was never great at making cool air even with R12 so don't expect a miracle.

Thanks,  sounds like it probably would work best  with a whole new system .
I'm still thinking of taking it completely off also .

I wouldn't replace the entire system just the parts from the firewall forward unless there are issues inside the car also.

Probably best to do a good check of all the parts and see what is good and what needs replaced.
