Borgeson steering box or fast ratio pitman arms?
« on: August 13, 2016 - 12:28:48 PM »
What's better improvement for handling: Borgeson power steering box or fast ratio pitman arms (like Hotchkis)? Is it overkill to install both or should I just go for one of these?

The Borgeson box is double the price of the pitman arms so is it really worth it?

I'd start with the arms first and see how you like it. I'm happy with the stage 3 Firm Feel box and fast ratio arms.... :2cents:

I installed borgeson gear with tubular upper control arms. Couldn't be happier.

well neither one is going to improve your handling per say, only make the steering quicker.

I agree with brad, start with the arms.  The fast ratio arms are a bolt in deal, maybe a new alignment to correct the toe, but that's it.  The Borgsen box required some work I believe.

Just my  :2cents:

Yeah, I know it won't improve the handling, I'll be upgrading the suspensions with Hotchkis or QA1 products.

I'm just investigating for now because Borgenson box is not cheap and at the place where I bought my Challenger they highly recommended it. They said it is THE best steering upgrade I can get.

The only issue I have read and experienced with the Borgesen box is the mounting pad may be off when it was welded. Mine (a first generation box) was off by about 3 degrees and angled the input shaft towards the engine. The coupler probably could have absorbed the angle difference but I fixed the alignment with the use of a re-purposed differential shim.

I do not know if the second generation boxes have the same issue. If you do not want to deal with shimming the box, I suggest buying from a seller that has a very good return policy.

Thanks for the info.

The return policy over here is a problem though. Central Europe is not known for Mopar parts stores. ;-)

I have put a borgeson steering box this summer.  Fit perfectly and with my tuff wheel the feeling is great. No angle in the shaft.
