New gauges or restored ?
« on: March 18, 2014 - 04:42:25 PM »
Which is better to do in the long run.... Send my speedometer and clock to Redline to have rebuilt or buy new from OER(Original Equipment Reproductions ) ? I realize it will cost probably double to get new, but I'm tired of taking my dash out.

I would rather have gauges in hand when I pull the dash instead of waiting a week for them to get to California, 2 weeks there and a week to get back. But I want to do it right. :pullinghair:

you answered yer own question and spring is here or there very soon.  Buy the oem replacements and hammer down, then send yer originals off eventually and re sell them :2cents:

How important is it to you to have your car as original as possible?

Considering the replacements will look identical and will work as good if not better...............

Received my OER clock and speedometer from Roseville. The clock loses 1/2 hour in a 2hour time period while the second hand is perfect. John at Roseville said he will contact OER to find out whats going on. At least the speedometer works ok. Now I have to pull the dash again.

Why can't anything be simple anymore.  :banghead:

Dug up an old post, but the question still stands, new gauges or restore the old?  A bit of time has passed, so the hope is there is more experience with the OER gauges.

OER has made GM gauges allot longer than their Mopar gauges.... The GM gauges don't have a very good reputation.... Rebuild your original stuff... :2cents:

Restore the old. Redline and others will use modern components while keeping the look of the original. OER makes them just like the originals were and my own personal luck with OER brand gauges which most outlets sell,  has been hit and miss.  Speedometer works great, but tach has issues.
