Ignition switch trouble
« on: August 31, 2016 - 09:39:05 PM »
Hello guys. New Challenger owner here. 1970 to be specific. I just got it literally. When I turn the key it will not start, but when your rolling it back to the stop position , it will start the car. I'm guessing this may be the trouble I hope. Turn signals won't blink. No dash lites . No stop lites. FRESHLY RESTORED he says. Perhaps it might be best to replace wiring harness. Clueless in Minneapolis. Thanks guys.  :swear:

I'm guessing it is cranking ... could be the switch but could be any wiring connection...  Ballast Resistor on the firewall could be bad a common issue.
Some other issues may have the connector on the steering column harness connector in common as well as the start issue.. may not be plugged together well.

Welcome to Cuda-Challenger

Simple to test. Brown wire out of switch should have power while cranking. Blue wire should have power in the "run" position. Disconnect the yellow wire on the starter relay while you test. This will disable the starter. Start testing for power at the connector at the base of the steering column. If those connections are good, move to the bulkhead connector.(both sides). If good there, check power at the ballast.
