So thinking about keeping the original 727 auto in the Roadrunner (was going manual) and would like to know what I'd need to put into the transmission to make it survive behind a strong 500hp 383 or 550-600hp stroker 383/450-489. It has one of the original Cheetah valve bodies from back in the 70's which allows for full manual shifting while still retaining auto shifting, and the original 10.5"(?) torque converter. I'm strongly considering putting a Gear Vendor overdrive on it and either 3.91 or 4.10 rear gears in the original 8.75" rear. I'm not going to be racing it regularly but do plan on running some decent 10-12" Mickey Thompsons on the back, and don't want it puking its guts out if I hook too hard. Some of the Stage II & III transmissions offered warn of extremely hard shifting which I'd like to avoid if possible. As for converter I'm thinking a high quality 2500-3000 rpm unit. So what is a good/safe rebuild strategy for this trans? Thanks in advance.
