1970 go wing install
« on: September 18, 2016 - 11:22:53 AM »
Has anyone not used the brackets under the trunk lid?  My brackets don't fit the underside of my lid at all.  I think maybe I have a repro trunk lid.   I should of took a picture of the inside but the nuts are are tightened to the inner skin.

I used the FSM measurements but even the year one measurements wouldn't of worked

Here's some before and afters

What's supporting the wing if there's no brackets on the inside ? :clueless:

I cheaped out when I installed mine and just used 2 inch flat washers. Ive been on the freeway at 70+ and it hasn't ripped off yet....  :roflsmiley:
And considering it's main function is downforce, I doubt it ever will.

And no, it hasn't indented the decklid either

It was like this,  I spent some time with a hammer, anvil, vise and pliers and fit them to my trunk lid

After some reworking

The underside of the trunk lid id suppose to have cutouts for the brackets.

I think these brackets are for installing the wing on a car that wasn't factory equipped.  The brackets I've seen on factory go wing cars with the cutouts seem different.  I could be wrong but it's what I've observed and seen anyway

I think these brackets go like this,  (pics from google images)

My car (1970 Barracuda convertible) didn't come with a spoiler but the original trunk lid had the go-wing cutouts and the duck tail spoiler cutouts. Those brackets are necessary for proper installation. They attach with sheet metal screws to the trunk lid over the hole cutout. Some cars came without the cutouts. I bought a set of templates just for this reason, in the event I got a lid without cutouts and wanted to add a spoiler.

Paint was dry on the brackets so I installed them,  finished it off nicely
