72 cuda new radio ?
« on: April 04, 2017 - 11:07:00 PM »
Hey guys, never even dealt with aftermarket radios, but am looking at putting one in my cuda. Previous owner put one in it maybe 80/90's, and it is a pull out tape player, once the radio is pulled out, there is a sheet metal cage that stays there. Do I need a different mount for newer cd player or are they universal? I keep seeing DIN, but have not seen specs? Do new radios come with these mounts? My closest stereo shop is an hr away and when you tell them 72 plymouth there is a pause.  Help a newb out please. Thanks

I just put new one in my 73 Cuda. It has the mount you are talking about but I don't know if they are interchangeable. I have a few pics but don't know exactly what questions you have, but if you ask them I'll try to answer them. Good luck.

DIN refers to a standard chassis size which is 2" high & 7" wide... E body Mopars being way ahead of their time happen to have a standard DIN sized opening...

The metal sleeves have many variations, sometimes to interchange if the radio is the same brand but even then it's rare....  But when you buy a radio it comes with the sleeve so no big deal....

Thank u guys. What I was concerned about was if I ordered the radio of the Web and it ended up being wrong size or no Sleeve and didn't work with my current sleeve. For guys who have put subs in their cars can u get 1 under the rear seat or is it better in the trunk

I can't think of the name atm, but there is a place that sells new modern am/fm radios that look and fit like the originals.
