Plug Wires too short!
« on: September 18, 2016 - 09:17:09 PM »
Looking for a set (OEM or aftermarket) of blue or orange plug wires for my 73 Cuda 340.  I bought a set and they are too short on the passenger side.  I have standard electronics on the car, with headers.  Tired of buying the crap that doesn't fit.  Thanks to all for your help.

The orange MP restoration wires are a little short but will still work.  Since you have headers, you're not looking for something stock looking anyway.  Just buy a universal kit from Summit and cut each wire to the length you want.  You'll get a cleaner install this way anyway.  You can route them how you want and get every wire the exact length it needs to be.

 :swear:

The Mopar Performance OEM orange wires I got from Summit were also too short, and were supposedly made to fit a 340... waste of money! No way I could make 2 of them fit. I went aftermarket, and no problem at all... the shortest wire was 8 inches longer than the shortest 2 from MP.

Try reversing your distributor!!!  I also had the too short wire problem, but, then I rotated the distributor 180 degrees, and of course reversed the firing order on the distributor (my cap doesn't have the plug wires marked).   Then my wires were long enough !!!

So we jury rig our stuff to let the "OEM" people off the hook.  The damned cars were made with wires that fit to begin with.  The factory looms are worthless with this "new OEM" crap. Stop telling me it is OEM if it doesn't friggin fit.  That's all I'm asking.

I just bought a set of Taylor ThunderVolt 8.2mm Spark Plug Wires from Summit for my 440 and they fit perfect.

"usraptr" = United States raptor - bird of prey = United States Bald Eagle.  FYI, somebody else thought of it first so I had to drop the "O" in raptor.

I was under the impression that 73 318s and 340s used the same valve covers.  If mine fit, they should fit yours too.  A couple are a little short but I was still able to get them hooked up.
