Crimping wiper switch housing - easy to do?

Was debugging why my wipers won't work, attempting to probe the switch from under the dash. Decided to take off the connectors to double check continuity when the housing separated  Ugh, not too happy about taking the woodgrain off since I got it on without a scratch.

Anyways, it looks like the crimps on the wiper switch were loose enough to allow the back portion to wiggle off as I was removing the connectors. Has anyone successfully re-crimped a switch?

Are the female connectors loose enough that the come out of the plastic bulkhead?

If not you can release them with a small flathead. Then  tighten the female part back up and snap them back in.

The female party needs to be pryed up not squeezed with plyers ..

But .. Depending on age you could end up breaking the locking tab off the female tab. They are brittle.

You could also change them over to new insulated female connectors .  And be done with it ..  New is better

You could by the new female connectors also. But sometimes they are like sticking a hotdog in a hallway , cause the plastic bulkhead is worn.

Thanks lulurocks, but the connectors are nice and tight.

The problem I'm seeing is that the entire black fiberglass/plastic piece on the back of the switch where the male tabs are has separated from the metal housing.  I'll take some pics when I get the switch out.

But you need get the springs back in right and the arm lined up,and crimp the case ..

Alot of things to go wrong ...   If you get out u can put it in large socket to hold the case tightand crimp the case back around the board with a punch by hand don't crack the board....

And most rebuilders need a good core to rebuild . So dont get to wild ... or it will cost you more $$$

I got  the 3 speed wiper switch out with out scratching the wood grain and managed to put the switch back together.

I have tested the switch using Resto Ricks HowTo as a guide. Based on  continuity, the switch checks out OK.  However,  I am concerned with is the amount of resistance there is between the tabs. Seeing ~1K ohms between some - is this normal?
