Reproduction Challenger Door Panels - Where to Buy?
« on: August 04, 2005 - 03:18:43 AM »

I know this topic gets blasted but I checked the [search] function to no avail.  :-\ Bugger all info really.  :(

Anyhow I am wanting opinions on who makes the best? Money is no object I just want quality and a good finish.
I know most, if not all the companys making them require a little trim and tuck here and there to fit thats no worry.
I would just like the best grain apperance and close to original loi and feel as possible.

I have searched eBay and continue to do so daily, no good. (yet)  :grinno:

Yearone or Legandary-(Accuform) are at the top of my list. My originals are just to shot, niks and scracthes abound.  :banghead:
They need a bit of work with some decent cracks and just 30 year old wear and tear from careless previous owners.
This will save me plenty of time, money and they will look good, although some out they can look cheap.

I have an excellent resto team working for me so they can make what ever I can get fit perfectly, I just want to give them the best panels possible so that gives them a good starting base for the probable trimming and cutting required to fit.

Cheers,
Carl

NZ,
I bought mine on E-Bay from someone that said they were from Year One. They look fine to me. The only difference from the originals is the plastic has a harder feel to it. Also, you will have to drill little holes in the center if you have woodgrain panels to install on them. Yhat's no big deal though.

Awesome!!! Thanks Mike.

That's what I wanted to hear. I have seen on other forums that they say the panels are harder, one would think that is good?
More solid/rigid?  :dontknow: :D Anyhow, I will wait for a few more responses but so far Year One is looking like the way to go.

I knew that you have to also cut holes for the power windows if you have them and something about the clips.
Like you said though, nothing major. Rumour has it that Year One also have a new manufacture for there door panels.

Thanks for your input Mike.

NZ................I was at a big mopar show in indy a month or so ago and went to the Lengendary display ctr and talked to them about it..........they were telling me they recently changed suppliers of door panels cause the deteriorating quality of the product......... I had recently heard that Palco made the best door panels on the market today..........like you I am looking to either paint mine or buy new door panels.........i am interested in excellent fit with the correct finish to it.........i dont mind paying a few extra hundred to be truely satisified with what I eventually buy.............. I am going to Mopar nats in 8 days and will extensively research and look at vendors to see what the consensus is............ I know there are some less than quality products out there, and oftentimes these vendors switch vendors cause they take a 10% increase or something like that..........the Legendary people have an excellent reputation from what I hear......( i have yet to purchase their product) but may buy seat covers in Columbus.     We are in the same boat.......be patient and hear what others have to say, and I will investigate this also while in Columbus.........ok Mate!!

Who is YO's manufacture?  :dontknow: I have just ordered my panels from YO.  :)

After seeing the kick panels and the grain on them there really isn't any difference.
The grain is a little I MEAN little bit undefined as the originals, very minimal and is hard to spot.

With buying good condition ones on eBay you still get 35+ year old plastic.
Looks good and fits well but you bend it  and it "can" crack.  :-[ It is more brittle and not as durable.
The new YO panels can really be bent hard and have plenty of give while still remaining solid.  :)

I'm happy I'm going YO. My rear panels will arrive late next week but the front panels are going to be 4-6 weeks.
So, if your needing panels or will be in the near future - ORDER NOW.  ;)

has anyone had theirs redone by Just Dashes? When I e-mailed them they gave me a quote of $400 to re-do all of them (front/rear/kick panels)  Does this sound reasonable?

VERY, considering it costs $403 for Year One repro front panels only, I'd say DEFINITELY go for it. I heard they do fantastic work.
The best thing for me if I were you is knowing the panels fit, unlike the repro stuff.  :ack:

If memory is correct, I believe Legendary interior quoted me just over $600 for the front and rears ..........i remember the door panels and the seats in white or burnt orange would be right at a $1000.    I think theirs are made by Palco..........but I would think Year1 would have excellent quality product too.
