Need gas cap , stant or gates part# for new filler neck
« on: October 07, 2016 - 07:13:36 PM »
I installed a new repop filler neck this summer (no vent), bought a locking gas cap ( motorrad) and its junk, leaks when I go around corners hard( runs down the quarter panel) .... not that I do that much?  :icon16:

Looking for the stant or gates gas cap part # standard cap or locking  ..... not to impressed with motorrad stuff...... I went to my local jobber and got a cap for a 72 Challenger and it doesn't fit. It screws in but the seal is not touching the filler neck. (stant#10807)

Thanks!
Brad

Will this one work? I searched 74 Challenger as my old cap that fit the original filler neck won't fit.  :dunno:
My Challenger was from California and has the emissions stuff in the trunk , 4 nipple tank etc...
BUT I switched to a repop filler neck so I assume they are made for later caps?  :dunno: :clueless:

Why not get a locking cap?  I couldn't find any of the twist on caps to work, only $10

I wouldn't assume anything... From what I've seen here in the past there is a different style for '71s but the 70 & 72-3 use the same expect for California emissions models possibly
Looking at Stant's Challenger list they are not showing anything except for locking to fit a '74 # 10571 (page 95)  http://www.stant.com/files/2714/0979/5243/Stant_Vintage_Guide.pdf
However they do list the same locking cap for 70 72-4 Charger & if you look at Barracuda they do have a non-locking cap for a '70 (page 241) 1970; OE Equivalent Fuel Cap; W/O Calif. Emission System .....
10623
My Hunch is the 10623 would work... :dunno: nope it's a big ole chrome job

Amazon came up with 10807 for a 72-Charger so I figure if the same locking cap works so would the non-locking  https://www.amazon.com/Stant-10807-Fuel-Cap/dp/B000B8LKZA/ref=au_as_r?_encoding=UTF8&Make=Dodge%7C40&Model=Challenger%7C286&Year=1972%7C1972&ie=UTF8&n=15684181&newVehicle=1&s=automotive&vehicleId=2&vehicleType=automotive

I could never get one to work, that's why I went to locking, they are different.
They don't twist and turn, just push in, never had a problem with leakage.

I've looked at that post on Moparts too. http://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/6362586/site_id/1#import

From what I can gather that carquest part # 35037 is the same as Stant 10571 or Gates 31670.
I think on Monday I'll order one of those and see if it fits.....

Thanks everyone for the help so far!

I Agree. I have a Motorad  Locking Gas Gap and it doesn't leak at all on my 70 Challenger, it's been on at least 6 years. Funny how some things work for some people and not for others.

Brad, could it be your repop filler neck out of spec on a dimension?

http://www.motoradusa.com/aboutus/index.html

I saw the same gascap today in the Hardware Store (Canadian Tire) for $18.99, it is listed as MGC-771 for a 1970 Challenger 440 with Flip Fuel Cap.

I think that's whats on the car now and leaking.....   It could be the neck I guess, I'll try another cap to see.
