Bending the ends of a new rallye dash panel?
« on: November 10, 2016 - 05:26:57 AM »
Hi guys, I have a new woodgrain/alloy facial panel that has to have both ends curved/bent up from a flat panel, what or how is the best method of getting this right?

On mine I clamped a section of pipe to the bench to push against.  I had the original piece there so I knew how far to bend.  Before you start, gather a few different diameters of pipe and see how they conform to the radius of the original piece.  You don't want the bend to be too tight or too gradual.

:iagree: Exactly what I did. Original as a template/guide and varying pipe or wood dowel sizes. I did wrap the steel pipe with masking tape to lessen the chance of scratches.

Exactly what I was going to suggest . . . not sure what size, 1 1/2  . . . 2" . . . ??

Thing is, I don't have an original to go by! So I don't know how tight the end is, if someone has some pictures of say a light switch housing with facia fitted that could email me a few pics of the elevation view showing the gap between the facial and the bezel please that way I can see where the angle/rolled edge starts etc please, there are many photos showing looking straight on but they are no help
