I don't think the 8 3/4's are that easy to break.

Remember when going to the Dana you don't have the variety of gears to put in there that the 8 3/4 does.

 :iagree:  Dana's start at 3:54 then 3:73, 4:10 etc...  I sold mine (3:55 sure grip) before I installed my new motor/transmission. I didn't break it. If your planning on a street car with street radials like BFG T/A's you likely wouldn't get enough traction to break a 8 3/4 . I tend to overbuild stuff so I don't have to worry about doing it again if I upgrade in the future. I don't mind spending the money...ONCE!

Before I bought the $100 spool from Dr.Diff,  I broke the steel set pin in pinion shaft of the 1972 cone sure grip. The pinion bearing was unaffected from the clunking.  I found a few tiny chips removed from the edge of the gears and reused them.           10 spline
