Looking for these 2 parts
« on: December 01, 2016 - 10:46:40 AM »

1. I am looking for a right side (passenger side) Kelsey-Hayes
front caliper for my 1970 Dodge Challenger, I attach a picture of the
backside of the left caliper, I am looking for a similar piece for the
right side.
2. Also, looking for the front bushings for the leaf springs

Is there a reason why you can't buy a reman from a parts store?

So you're looking for a caliper with those exact numbers on it?

Is the "211" number a casting date?  If so, would that mean the 21st week of 71?

A parts store should have original calipers that have been rebuilt.  They may or may not have numbers you want.  Unless you are building a car to be judged in OE judging, those should work for you.

That one you pictured looks like it's been blasted which would not be the correct finish for an OE judged car.  I also edited my above response and questioned the "211" number on the one you pictured.  If that's a casting date, it wouldn't be correct for a 70 model year Challenger.  It all depends on what kind of car your building.

I am not sure about casting numbers, I think there are several different numbers out there, the car's build date was Dec. 1, 1969, the engine build date was 11-11-69, the left caliper is original, and yes, has been blasted, I asked RAMMAN about the numbers on those calipers and I cannot remember what he told me but pretty sure there are no date codes on the calipers but I am by no means an expert on the subject

Personally, I'd order in a rebuilt caliper from your local parts store and see what comes in.  If you don't like it, you don't have to buy it.  I bought replacement calipers for my Challenger from Car Quest many years ago.  They looked exactly like my originals except for some numbering.  I kept my originals and didn't turn them back in as cores.

It's possible that original cores have dried up and parts stores are using "new" castings.  You'd have to order one and find out.  Good luck with the build.

That is a 1971 caliper. The casting number on a 1970 is KH80012   Date code is upper left.

I usually tell quick by looking at the hole on the top. 70's had a much larger hole. :2cents:

Seems like the rebuilt calipers from the parts stores all end up being later style.
I needed a pair for my T/A restoration, and put a wanted ad on Moparts last spring, and had a number of people contact me with correct cores.  I bought a properly date coded set off one member, and sent them to Brake and Equipment warehouse to be rebuilt.  All in all, when all is said and done, it wasn't cheap, I have over $250 in my calipers and another $175 in the new restoration hardware kit that's on the market with correct slider pins and spacers etc, but the end results look nice!
The cores are not too rare but you have to search around for people with big hoards of parts to find them.
