Glass repair/polish
« on: November 27, 2016 - 06:08:17 PM »
Is there a way to perform restoration on a windshield?  I'm preparing glass installation and went to clean the windshield and rear window.  All glass is tinted and original to the car so I was hoping to use it.  The rear window is pretty good with minor surface scratches (normal aging).  The windshield was looking good as well until I found a two inch surface scratch on the driver side exterior and then an "abrasion" style imperfection on the passenger side interior.  Both seem to be from storage over the years and are lower on the windshield so I'm hoping there is a solution rather than another budget buster item :banghead:.

What timing huh; 11/20/16? Thanks.  I'm probably going to give it a go since winter is setting in and I have the time. My glass is pretty solid other than these issues.  I'll post an update for others.

I unsuccessfully used Eastwoods kit.  They gave me back my money.  I followed directions, but it was distorting the glass.  The kit heats up the glass quickly. It did clear ups some scratches, but it also distorted the glass some IMO.   I ended up buying a new set of AMD glass....get out your checkbook.

Just my  :2cents:

There is a great video on youtube where a guy starts working on a car that was towed around by a RV.   He uses wax/ 00 steel wool, a claybar and rianex-

Thanks.  I saw that video using steel wool and will try it.  I'm also going to give one of the other glass repair systems a try (Cerium Oxide or others) since this is the second warning about the Eastwood product.  I am preparing myself to buy another windshield as with other unplanned damaged items :faint:.  My checkbook still has checks in it so it'll be good right? :roflsmiley: I'll post the results in the future.
