Metro door panel convertible
« on: December 15, 2016 - 01:14:56 PM »
Have you combined the Metro door panel with a Palco rear panel in a convertible? How does it look, does anyone has pictures. Roseville does not recommend to mix the two panels, but the bad quality of the Palco door panels is really annoying.

I wouldn't recommend it either.  Absolutely different shapes, grains, etc.

Your only option is Just Dashes redo as at least they'll match eachother and fit (slightly tighter than before).  Grain is not OEM like either, but that's your only option.

I just don't understand how Palco/Accuform can make the panels, but Metro/Roseville couldn't.  Did the former make the huge investment?

The problem is Palco/Accuform got there first.. So it is perceived that they covered the market & even though it's an inferior product it's hurt the sale-ability of a competing product....   The fact is folks who have E body convertibles have already accepted that owning one is expensive & if a better product were available a large percentage would step up & buy the things... But do you want to gamble your $300K on what most of us believe is a viable market?  Apparently Metro doesn't....

Well the fact that they only made about 9000 E Body convertibles total in 70-71...How many are still around ? How many are Dodges/Plymouths etc....how many people would buy a set.....The number of potential sales is relatively low which lends to their decision.... :crying:

As I've said before: Put me down for a set.  I'd be willing to spend $1K for them.

To bad they couldn't have been molded so you just have to cut off what you need from a hardtop set , but I guess they are to different to be able to do that.  The tooling would be crazy expensive I can see why they haven't been produced yet. The math doesn't make sense unfortunately?  :pullinghair:

I wonder if they're too big to be 3D printed.

Classic Ind told me they can order me rear panels and it would be about 12 weeks for them to make them but would not tell me who they were made by. I bought a set of Palco panels on e bay and a week later he told me they don't have them in stock. ( why list something you don't have???) $ 2500. To have Just Dashes redo the frt and rear panels . They won't do just the rears. I did see a Cuda at a show that had a wrap put on them and they did look pretty good. Anything would be better then beat up panels . At least they will fit. I'm going to check the shop after the holidays and get the details.

Yup.  I have brand new white Metro door panels and seat backs, AND two sets of white original convertible rear panels. One set has lost virtually all the texture due to "chalking", the other set is in better condition, but still needs restoration work.  I don't want to go the Just Dashes route.  Covering them in vinyl is not restoration and won't match the rest of the interior panels.  So, I'm planning an attempt at restoring my own since I haven't been able to find anyone that specializes in "restoration" of original plastic interior panels.

If you come up with something that you're satisfied with would you consider doing my rears. Like you I have a set of white Metro door panels just waiting.

I've never seen the metro panels in person. What exactly is wrong with them?

Nothing wrong with the Metro panels. It's the Palco or Accu-form that are really no good.

And Metro hasn't made convertible rear panels... Palco/Accuform made them... They did a **** job of it, but in Metro's market analysis they hurt the marketability of an already limited market for a part that would require a big $$$ investment to produce....
