Formed tubing
« on: June 27, 2005 - 09:18:51 AM »
I am replacing the  rubber fuel lines in my challenger. And in some areas there are a few drastic bends and I'm afraid the hoses could kink. Has anyone tried using springs and a heat gun to put permanent bends in the tubing? Any suggestions?
Thanks

springs & or a tube bender should easily bend the tubing , I have made coplete lines in the past with no problems

Hi Basement,
I assume you're trying to heat form rubber tubing and your idea might work. I've used stiff solid
core wire ,like 8 or 10 ga inside it, heated it in the oven at about 250-275 degrees for about an hour
or so and had it hold most of the bend. It did relax some after removing the wire when it was cooled
down to room temp. Never tried the heat gun idea though, which might work even better if you're
patient enough not to "rush it" !!   Jeff
