Selling parts on KiJiJi/Craigslist.....

Yup: That's why I throw a lot of good stuff in the garbage can. People seem to think my time has zero value, I should give the parts away and then use my own time (1 hour minimum to pack and ship) and then I should pay shipping as well. It takes 2 minutes to throw the stuff in the garbage can and there is no stress involved. Let the buyers use their credit card to buy chinese parts that don't fit and break.
When I sell my parts I think I right price them, I've had guys like Alan say they'll take them, pay within a few minutes and I ship the parts. No stress at all and both parties are happy. That's the way it should be.

It still might be cheaper than A 20 hour round trip, fuel and time. plus in the time the dude spent wasting your time.

I was curious so I checked Google Maps. One way trip from Perth, ON to Georgetown, ON was 4 hours (8 hr round trip). Of course, that's with clear sailing and an in/out with the part, no gab session.

Very valid point. There are a lot of non-dickheads who don't mind shipping parts. I always ask people to include a shipping to Canada cost if they have a part I need and they want to sell.
I would expect only the people who respond to my want ads, would be willing to ship.
If I respond to a parts for sale ad, my first question is always "will you ship to Canada?" if they say "no" I move on....

I don't blame you for not wanting to deal with shipping large heavy items. More trouble than it's worth. I'm surprised you continued the conversation though....I sure wouldn't. You're too busy for that.

In fairness though, most people aren't like that. He is that 1% type that shoots his mouth off freely because he's hidden behind a computer screen and risks nothing. Guy probably didn't even take the time to fully read the ad the first time.

I've sold many things on eBay and had good experiences for the most part. I really try to avoid Craigslist though. There are too many weirdos on there. I could advertise a suitcase full of twenties for $10 bucks and probably get some knot head asking if I'll accept $5 instead. Every time I list on Craigslist, I'm shaking my head before long.

If your selling parts/cars online now a days, you have to have a good sense of humor. Otherwise you will beat your head against the wall.
It seems like the people buying parts online want them for free and with as little hassle to themselves as possible.   

I had a set of four truck rims with tires, aluminum rims and BFG All terrain with about ten percent tread left.  These are adequately described and great pictures of all aspect on the tread and rims, hub caps and lug nuts included, for $100 dollars. I have been hit with all kinds of responses.

such as,
I only want the rims, will you dismount the tires?
I only need two, will you separate?
Whats your best price....me $100....them, what you wont take less?
How many more miles will the tire last?
If I buy them and they don't fit can I return them?
I will take them if you will deliver them to my house, Me..okay I will, but only within a ten mile radius of my house, after that it is 50 cents a mile round trip. Them...how did you come up with that number per mile? Me...I pulled it out of my a$$.
Will the fit my 2011 Nissan Titan?

Got an email at 7:30 am this morning from a guy leaving Montreal to pick up some parts from me that he pre-paid for....1 pm now, he just left after a 2 minute visit to return home..... That works for me

I don't agree with what actually happened in this following story but I do agree with the principle.
A close mate a few years back had an original 1915 Dodge which he had restored and had an extra Speedo in almost perfect condition, very ornate. He was at one of our largest swap meets with a fair but reasonable price on it, many wanted it and he stayed firm on the price. At the end of the swap meet several hopefuls congregated around as he was packing up offering less than half of his asking price, of course he said NO. None of them knew that he also had another speedo which was only a shell, he placed it on the ground and smashed it with a mash hammer, 2 of these blokes grabbed him forcing him to stop but it had flattened due to nothing inside. One threatened to have him charged!! Why?? it was his to do what ever he wanted to with it, the joke was on them though. The last I heard he still had the speedo

Alan what are these bell housings going for? I listed an 8 3/4 sure grip pumpkin I had on kijiji and said I was clearing out the garage of parts. Had two requests for BB cast iron Bells. Wish I had em as they must be hard to come by.
