Shavings in pans

shavings in the pan on my 5.2 magnum   my brother thinks there from the bushing from the oil pump shaft     I though I read somewhere that the magnum was not timed like a La motor, if you pull out the distributor does it have to go back the same, the timing goes off the bellhousing ? might be fun to see if its bad all the way under the fire wall, still might have to pull the motor, what do you think Cp 

the bearing are made of a softer metal than the crank rods ---   so as long as there is no scratches do you think that it can be tanked re honed re ringed and new standard size bearings.  the oil presure dropped of after 3-4 minutes of warm up. pulled the pan to take a look and see shavings   not good.  I would say there more copper looking flakes and I recall the bushing on the oil pump shaft being the same color what are the main bearings made of and what do you recommend.  pull it out take it apart and check everything ?  there was quite a bit of crap in the pick up  I wonder if it was just cloged.

I change oil every 3000    oil had 2000 on it it was full to line, looked dirty though, motor has less than 70,000 miles supposively   this motor was swapped in the truck after the last owner ran it out of oil.   

I have to pull the motor out of the challenger so this guy can buy it, two motor pulls sucks  :ack:

copper is also used in the brgs so the brgs could have failed also , of the brgs are OK you should be able to do a cheap rebuild on it
 My batteries are dead in my crystal ball so I really cannot say what you need to do to the engine

Better investigate!
As far as the distributer, it is exactly that! It distributes the spark. It wont affect ignition timing, HOWEVER! The injector timing is ran off of the bottom of the distributer (the lil gray plastic plate under the cap) and if it aint right, your injector timming aint right, then the computer reads it not being right, and dont run worht crap! (Injector sequence can be adjusted with a diagnostic computer)
I get my mirror out, and mark where the distibuter was (on the back of the block) then, put it back in perfectly when I am done!
I would pull the motor, casue you have shavings from the pan to the filter, and possibly farther!
(plus, if the bushing for the dist drive is shot, it wont run worth a poop either)
