Should I repair it or leave it alone?

Hi Guys, i have been driving my 440 Challenger for about two years and it has been really nice. I had a problem on the 3rd gear popping out at deceleration but i didn't pay any attention. I also had an oil seepage from the front of the trans. The trans is a A833 18 spline. I didn't like the oil leak so i decided that i will take it out some day and fix both problems. Anyway that day came and things got a little complicated, i found worn dog teeth in the 3rd speed gear (as expected) but also worn dog teeth in the main drive shaft and burrs in the cone. I post pictures below with also countershaft's thrust washers, 3rd - 4th clutch gear, the clutch sleeve for that and the 3rd speed gear...

My question is this, i have already bought a rebuild kit but the problems are overwhelming, i could replace everything except the main drive shaft which is too expensive to buy. Should i replace everything i have (basic rebuild kit), wrap it up, drive it and in 5 years bite the bullet or is the problem too much and replace everything worn now?

You have everything apart now, do it up right and be done with it.....if you can afford to.

guess your talking input shaft .. I see Brewers is a lot pricier than these guys http://www.tbtrans.com/a833_4_speed_transmission_pa.htm

Thanks for the replies guys. Bullitt, you are correct, the input shaft from Brewers is too expensive for me, but these guys have reasonable prices. Have you bought from them? I'm asking about parts' quality.

Could a machine shop fill the dog teeth and then machine the ends to make it like before? Or is it best not to tamper with it ?

they are hardened so after rebuilding th teeth they would have to be hardened or they would go way quickly
often kicking out of gear is more to do with th syncro than the gear unless the teeth are very tapered ,, you may be able to rebuild without replacing the gears themselves

I went to a machine shop and he told me that while he could repair the dog teeth, he couldn't harden the metal all together (using quenching),  as they are two different metal alloys and can't be "glued" together properly. So i contacted Passon Performance and American Powertrain Warehouse to get a new input shaft, a new 3rd speed gear and a new synchro assembly. What i found weird, was that the 3rd 4th synchro rings were in nice condition, whereas the 1st 2nd synchros were shot and 1st 2nd dog teeth were a little worn out but the gear were shifting ok, except 2nd downshifting, i have to get it at 15 mph to do it! Not to mention that metal particles were glued all over inside the trans.  Anyway i cleaned and painted everything now and i'm waiting for the parts to arrive.

Also while i'm at it. I have seen some restoration blogs that say to change (or replace if worn) bronze shift forks for steel ones. Is it ok? I'm watching the 1-2 one and it is a little worn out.

Forgot to tell, tbtrans don't have 18 spline parts anymore (at least 3rd speed gear and input shaft). I called them on the phone. They suggested me Passon Performance.
