Hemi 6.4

I am looking at a 6.4 hemi 2014 out of a  Ram 2500 truck with 4000 miles on it. looking to install in my 1970 barracuda I don't know much about the gen III hemi
any help would be great, does it matter if it is a MDS or VVT engine ? what auto transmission can I use ? anything I should be concerned about ?

Gen 3 still uses small block mopar bell housing, me personally I would get an early 518 od for it and build it up. Modern Muscle, Mopar, or Efi Source would be the ticket for getting it running it right as they all come with preprogrammed maps. Thou Modern Muscle and EFI Sources can be tuned in the future way more easily if you swap cams, headers, etc on it, and not sure if Mopar ecu supports the 6.4 truck motor. It's 1295.00 for efi sources + another 200.00 for a stand alone wideband O2 sensor and controller, and another 385.00 for a cable operated throttle body , not sure on ma mopars box, MM is your best bet if your all thumbs with electronics, comes with everything for 2699.00.

That will be a nice swap. You need to read up on it, start with the threads here, that will link you to other info, there is a lot to learn. I spent months reading before I got an engine. You can use a small block 727, easiest, or if you want overdrive, (more complicated swap) a 518, or 545RFE or a NAG1. the 6.4 motor I am looking to buy the guy told me it is out of a truck , how do I confirm that, also what does the letters and numbers on the valve cover  tell me ?

FYI, the truck 6.4 is different than the car 6.4.
truck motor has lower HP and different internals.

ok I decided against the 6.4 and picked up a 2015 5.7 out of a charger with 26000 miles on it,  I am thinking of going with a 904 transmission will that bolt up to 5.7 ? or will I need an adapter ? also what stall on the  torque converter ?

the 904 will bolt up. you will need a flex plate, I believe STI sells the 5.7 to 904 plate. the torque converter will need to be unbalanced, as far as stall not 100% what is best. I had a new 2600 stall laying around at time of install so I tried it and it works ok, but I have been wondering if there is a better stall for this configuration. Hopefully someone else on here can answer that question better.

I wouldn't waste my time with a 904 or 727.
Try and find yourself a A518/46RH OD Trans from a 1991 - 1993 dodge truck. This way you'll be able to run a set of 3.91/4.10 gears to have some fun but still cruise the highway!
Its basically a 727 w/ OD. Very easy to install and hook up.

You will need a shorter drive shaft however.

As for the flex plate, Part #ATI915685 (Mancini Racing sells them)

Which A518?
The A518 is also called the 46RH (hydraulically controlled) and the 46RE (electrically controlled).
You want to find the 46RH. The 46RE requires computer control and was available after 1996.

The 46RH is broken down into versions,
1) 1988 Thru 1992 - 2-pin socket non-lockup converter (allows you to use a 727 torque converter).
2) 1993 to 1995 - 3-pin socket lockup converter.   
You can find the 46RH on Dodge vans and trucks with the V8. 

Converter depends on cam and gearing.
