Brake warning light/soft pedal
« on: March 10, 2017 - 04:06:41 PM »
So I've been trying to fix a soft brake pedal and warning light since I got the car last summer.  The brake warning light comes on when the pedal is depressed and the pedal is soft.  I have changed the master cylinder 3 times with reman units, changed the proportioning valve, bled the hell out of the brakes and checked all the lines for leaks.  I tried clamping each rubber line one at a time to see if it had any effect, with no effect.  This makes me think it's the master cylinder (which I did bench bleed each of them).  So I ordered an NEW wilwood master cylinder to get rid of the reman crap and that's on it's way.  Am I missing something?  At this point I need a sanity check.

Thanks,
Derrick

The warning light comes on when there is a pressure difference between the front and rear brake circuits, so I'd guess you still have air in the lines or too much clearance between the shoes and the drums. If you have shoes on both ends, run them up so they drag, then back them off just a bit. If drums only on the back do the same with them. Make sure that the calipers on the front are moving, they should drag a LITTLE all the time.

Oh, I forgot to mention I have discs all the way around and the proportioning valve is for a 4 disc system and adjustable. I have wilwoods in the rear and stock up front.  With the car up in the air, each brake stops the wheel as expected with the tire spinning and the brake pedal pressed.  I have bleed literally gallons of brake fluid through all four corners with the 2 person press the brake method, gravity bleed method and via vacuum pump...
