Weird sound when shifting

So I'm by no means any kind of transmission expert and need some help. Today, my wife and I were doing some video footage for my new website BadAssClassics. I was doing a promo plug scene where she is already staged with the camera and I come flying up the road to the spot where she is. I do my plug, spin the car around and take off back the way I came. There were a lot of people out today and we had to do the take several times because of other drivers getting in my way. The last time of doing this when shifting from 2nd to 3rd there was a strange sound that sounded almost like a belt rub squeak. It lasted for just a second and happened exactly when the car shifted from 2nd to 3rd. It did it ever time after that until I got it home. I know there are adjustment bands in these things but I read that they don't really need adjustment unless the car is shifting weird which it isn't. It just makes that weird sound. What are these bands? Are they a thick belt material? Could it be these making the sound? Help

I would check the first culprit, ujoint the band adjusting isn't something anyone want to tackle at home

Oh yeah, 727
I don't see the u joint making that kind of noise and it's ONLY between 2nd and 3rd shift.

I can't here noise but I can tell you ujoint squeak when they want check them it's easy enough

U joints are fine. It's a really weird sound, almost like taking one of those barber shop sharpening straps and rubbing it down something. Like a heavier sounding version of someone's pant legs swooshing together. Hard to describe.

Okay I would try getting access to a lift unless you have one and see if it will do on lift, I have one if your in neighborhood

Bands aren't difficult to adjust. One can be adjusted from the outside. They other is inside. You have to drop the pan to adjust that one.

It's going to be next to impossible to diagnose this noise on a website if you can't record and post it. Take the car to a trans shop and have someone ride along with you. As others have suggested, it could be something else, u-joint, engine/trans mount, rear end exc...

 It's probably the tires screaming for relief  . But really, I'm assuming it's a 727 auto, and if that is the case, to engage 3rd it releases the front (kickdown) band and engages the front (3rd-reverse) clutch pack.

  Adjust the intermediate band. You may want to drop the trans pan and also adjust low reverse band as well plus a fluid and filter change. Check the fluid condition and clean the pan magnet. Hopefully it isn't too serious.

What I'm trying to determine with the bands is would they just make noise without a shifting problem? From what I've read, they only need adjustment is that's the case.

I don't think the band is making your noise as the band is releasing on the 2-3 shift, but I've seen the 2-3 shift overlap and be in 2nd and 3rd at the same time for a split second. That might make a noise you could hear (besides a "clunk"), but I know it FEELS like it's in two gears at once and will eventually take the 3rd-reverse clutches out. But I've not seen that problem unless the valve body was changed or monkeyed with, EI the clutches are applying before the band releases. Real hard to say without hearing it but I'd check the easy stuff first. See if it is still doing it now, then make sure it's not RPM related (belt slipping right at shift point) or heat related or possibly suspension?

I agree, hard to say without hearing it. I'm thinking the noise may be on the 3-2 down shift. ?? The intermediate band adjustment may actually be too tight. ??Throws off shift timing unfortunately. Easy enough to check and adjust as necessary, and free! Look at the trans fluid color on the dipstick. Wipe the stick on a paper towel and check for dark residue usually indicating fiction material in the fluid.
