Oil pressure & water temps?
« on: June 28, 2005 - 05:59:02 AM »
My water temps ar usually between 170 and 190 deg f.  I have seen them get as high as 200, but only when its very hot out (around 90 F)  Are these safe operating temps?

Also, I have watched my oil pressure, and this is what I have found:

0mph, 600rpm, 18psi
20mph, 1100rpm, 40psi
35mph, 1500rpm, 45psi
55mph, 2200rpm, 60psi

Sound ok?

This is in a 73 340 Cuda, stock except for headers and a mild cam, bored .030 over.

Thanks for any input.

Yep they are all fine for stock
what weight oil you running ? Personally I like a little more at idle but 18 at 600 rpm is ok , your not hurting the motor any

I have a warmed up 340.. was driving her around this weekeend when it was 95° here in joisey and on highway it was 170° and did not get hotter than 190°.. 195° when idling for 15 min in Ritas parking lot  lol

Oil pressure is higher @ iddle.. prob around 28-30, but I run 20W-50 during the Summer.

Im running 10w-40.  The 600rpm at idle is in gear.  I should check again in park.  Thanks for the input. :)

My car is also ac equipped from the factory.  It doesnt work, so I am considering pulling it.  That would get the ac radiator from in front of my cooling radiator, as well as get rid of some weight and rotating mass.  I would just tag it and bag it in case I decide to sell someday, it could go back on.

perfect!

under 220 is ok, just dont work it hard over 210 (my rule of thumb)
Just for another reference,

My racetruck 318 has about 10 pounds at idle (900)
2000 (25 pounds)
3000 (40 pounds)
4000 (60 pounds)
5000 (75 pounds)
It has stock pump, high pressure spring, and mopar's own oil mods done to it.
