Slight pull to the left
« on: March 20, 2017 - 07:54:55 AM »
Hello

Little background first: I purchased a 73 Cuda last March and started keeping a log of things to repair in priority. First and utmost were the front brakes, the car would pull to the RIGHT very noticeably when applying the brakes. Since I did not have a lot of history on the car I brought it to a muscle car restoration service and wanted them to not only check the brakes but check for any outstanding safety issues. (I'm not a mechanic in real life) Two things were corrected: the idler arm and a brake line on the left side. The mechanic commented on the underside saying no rust, all brushings look good, no safety issues, no contamination in fluid, no piston or caliper problems.

Driving it home, the car did stop pulling on the right but gave just a slight pull on the left now when braking. I did two things first I called and the mechanic suggested that since he changed the brake line on the left, the right could be a bit slower to response and should be changed too.  My question to the forum is does that sound correct? Secondly I did jack up the front end and noticed that the right tire (pass side) has a bit of movement if I move the tire in/out where the left has no movement.  My other question would be does that indicate a linkage issue and possible contributing to the slight pull??

I want to thank everyone for their time reading my notes here. /Jon

My Challenger pulled to the right when I would brake. We replaced both calipers and both flex hoses. Absolutely no issues now. It cost a bit but it was worth it, now that's done and I don't have to worry about it again. Having said that, you need to find out why there is play in the wheel as that may be contributing to it. Possibly a bearing issue?

Check your strut rod bushings at the k-frame.  It is difficult to see where the bushing breaks; sort of inside the k-frame.  If you push really hard on the brakes, it will pull to the left and lock up the right tire.

wheel moving in and out could be a wheel bearing.

Always replace brake parts in pairs. Hoses break down on the inside and you can't see it. Front end needs to be tight too.
