Recently had to replace head gaskets- one was leaking. Everything went back together fine, yet I now have an issue with my temperature gauge. I have a separate set of under dash gauges- and the water temperature reads consistently at 175-180.
The dash gauge usually would rise just to or past the first hash mark past "C", which was normal as well.
Since the engine work, the dash gauge now jumps past "H" and sits there. After the engine has been turned off, the gauge returns to normal. I checked the sensor at the motor and the wire had been accidentally cut- and I can't locate the end that runs to the firewall.
My thought is that the other end is either grounded (laying on a section of the engine or something else causing this, but I can't for the life of me seem to locate the end.
What color wire am I looking for for starters and where would it come out of the firewall- maybe I can trace it forwards.
Second, ever since the engine work, I now notice that the car will have trouble starting after it has been run for a while. Almost sounds like the car isn't getting fuel or a consistent spark. What should I check for here as well?
This was a "routine" head gasket replacement.
Thanks
